About Us
Tree-scape and Fitch, Inc. is owned and operated by business partners Gerry Keiffer and Brian Fitch.
Gerry began the business more than 30 years ago. After studying as an engineer, he followed his heart outside and studied as an arborist. The challenge of what he was taking on was never more apparent than when he went for his license. After sitting before a panel that could ask anything, he was tasked with identifying trees in the dead of winter. He relied on what he’d learned about branch structure, silhouette, and bark to correctly recognize every tree. Even with years of experience, he’s happy when warmer weather provides him with some leaves to make the job a bit easier.
Most customers are amazed at what they can learn just by walking around the yard with Gerry or Brian. We can tell you what kind of tree you have, what to expect from it in terms of growth and seasonal behavior, and how to care for it over the coming years. One homeowner felt frustrated by the tiny pine needles she saw littering the driveway in the fall until we told her that they were coming from the larch, one of the few pines to shed its needles in the winter. Given the rarity of these trees, she’s now proud to have something unique and interesting.
The men are both graduates of Bethel High School and, for most of their careers, had shared references and supported each other with professional respect and courtesy. A few years ago, they decided to combine their talents to offer more for their customers. Given what they know about trees and the state in which they grow, homeowners can rely on them to make sure that trees are either properly pruned and maintained or, when it is necessary, removed. Safety and proper procedure are priorities. Tree-scape and Fitch is known as a responsible company by not only homeowners but inland wetland and conservation commissions.
Their additional priorities are a love of trees and a genuine desire to make homeowners happy. A job well done is as important to them as personal integrity. A sense of pride wells up at the end of a workday, when sugar maples, white oaks, and even a rare sycamore looks amazing and a property is truly beautiful.
