Our Specialties
Your headache is where we excel. We’ve spent the time to learn and implement best practices so what might seem like an impossible job to you—saving a tree or taking down a monster that has grown very close to your favorite window—are jobs we take on with confidence and pride.
Pruning
What you want to accomplish when pruning a tree depends on the tree itself. What does this plant need from an arborist?
Mature trees can have dead limbs that are not only unsightly but dangerous. That thing can go at any time and, even if it misses your car, house, shed, or outdoor furniture, what are the odds that you’ll be happy to see it lying in the yard and want to clean it up? If it’s a good size limb, you might not even be able to shift it to an unused portion of your yard.
Live limbs might need pruning to improve the shape of the tree, clear obstructions including wires or neighboring trees, and balance the weight of the tree to ensure its integrity. You may simply want to remove lower limbs that are shading a vegetable or flower garden. Maybe one limb is just getting a bit much to duck as you walk along with the lawnmower or a glass of iced tea.
Young trees might need help in growing straight and true. Depending on the location of necessary nutrients such as light and minerals from the soil, you may need to remove leaders or stems that are destined to fail. By creating a strong framework, you’re ensuring the success of your investment in the tree and giving it the best possible chance at a happy future.
Specialty pruning helps specific trees to either produce fruit or flowers or, in the case of topiaries, to present their best features to highlight your home.
Shrub Pruning
Ornamental shrubs and bushes are an investment in your property and, like any investment, should be maintained. Proper pruning will keep hedges thick and beautiful because the foliage becomes more prominent. Those who let the pruning process slide for too long find that the woody branches take over and the result is more about unattractive sticks than lush leaves and even, in the case of plantings like rhododendrons, flowers.
You should prune your shrubs and bushes every year or at least every other year to maintain the esthetic and monetary value you have put into your home. Letting this simple task go is a waste of your money.
Cabling
If you’ve ever used a tomato cage in a garden or maybe tied a ribbon to a house plant, then you have a rough idea of cabling. We’re using manmade materials to help the limbs of a tree when those limbs cannot support themselves in a way that translates to the overall health of a tree or its esthetic value.
It’s not just a matter of drilling into a limb and securing a cable with some bolts. You know enough to visit a qualified surgeon if you need help with your limbs so make sure you hire a qualified tree surgeon when you want to help your trees. The American National Standards Institute approved new standards for cabling, bracing, and good arborists follow these guidelines. They also consider the species of trees and how each has specific needs. There is no one way to apply the standards and when combining the information with experience and training in proper tree care techniques.
We’ll be happy to walk your property to give you a free consult. We can identify the type of tree you have and point out features such as natural split lines. If a leader is in danger of falling on a car or outdoor deck, we can take care of not only the imminent threat but save the tree. Losing a large section can mean the difference between life and death for a tree and we’ve been able to save numerous trees. That means homeowners can enjoy the shade and beauty of a plant that has taken decades to grow into the perfect size. Also, saving a tree can be much more cost effective than removal and/or replanting.
Stump Grinding
Trees are formidable objects. Even when you take the time to cut one down, the stump and root system can hang around for a very, very long time. If you want to speed up the process of returning that wood to the Earth, we can help you replace that unsightly and decaying stump with fresh soil to install a lawn, plant something special, or start over with a young tree.
If you prefer to leave the remnant of a tree, we’ll cut it to your specifications so that you have a level surface on which to perhaps enjoy container gardening, create a decorative accent for your yard, or even rest yourself as you putter around your little piece of heaven.
Cleanup
We’ll leave a property cleaner than it was when we arrived. Our equipment will remove all evidence of limbs and you can elect to use the chips or we’ll take them off site for you. We’ll take the time to use rakes and leaf blowers to remove all debris, including sawdust, so that it will look as if we were never there, but for the improvements that you can show off to guests.
Difficult Takedowns
We’ve safely removed trees growing next to and over houses, near power lines, by pools and patios and decks. Time passes quickly and, before you realize it, that nice tree you barely noticed when you moved in is now a huge threat to your biggest investment. If you’re unable to sleep when the winds kick up, call us for a free evaluation. Maybe the tree is healthy and just needs a bit of work to ensure its safety. Maybe something has happened to weaken it and taking it down will be that ounce of prevention that’s worth the pound of cure.
